I have never been a big fan of TV programmes like the X factor or Big Brother, shows, which in my opinion tend to emphasise a lot of the things that are wrong with British society today, so when I saw a story in the Telegraph under the headline Britain’s got problems-Not Talent I thought it might be worth a read.
Well I wasn’t disappoint (maybe a little sad) when I read the article which is actually about the Britain’s Got Talent TV show. Indeed I found myself agreeing with the author, Judith Woods, as she compares some of the mindless morons that pose as British tourists abroad with the performers in the show. I particularly like this quote from Judith.
“In truth, Britain’s Got Talent is like watching someone’s stag weekend televised, at unconscionable length; there are men cross-dressing and women stripping, pole- dancing and tassels, a shouty shambolic wannabe rapper, an irritating man in a straitjacket on the end of a flaming rope and borderline jail bait teenagers prancing about in their underwear.”
I also reckon there is many an expat bar around the world with a similar “cast of performers,” masquerading as British expats, or should that be the other way round? Ask yourself even as a tourist how many times have you sat in an expat bar and listened to the talentless Brits on the karaoke doing their best to murder what was a once great song?
I think I tend to agree with Judith, Britain has indeed got problems not talent, but unfortunately we also seem to have a knack for exporting them in the form of these TV shows that end up being sold around the world In pretty much the same way that we expose other cultures to some of our less desirable citizens.
