As a British expat living abroad and having access to modern communication you might not see a need to register your presence in a country with the UK FCO Locate service.
But what if you got caught up in something like a Tsunami in Sri Lanka or an earthquake in China local communication is often affected in these events and you may not have the means to contact loved ones to let them know your are OK.
Now if you register with Locate the British Embassy or Consulate in the country you live in will have your details and can facilitate passing on information about you to family and friends. They will also contact you if they consider you might be at risk. Another excellent feature of the Locate service is that you can sign up for email alerts that pertain to events in the country you live in.
Its very easy to register as there is an online form available.
So if you are a British expat can I strongly recommend you use the free service offered by FCO Locate.
