As a former British army soldier I have nothing but admiration for the Gurkhas. So why is the British Government treating them like second class citizens when it comes to settling in the UK? These tough little fighting men have served the British Government since 1815 and have amassed a large number Victoria Cross awards in the process.
I remember watching the battle of the Falkland Islands unfold on the TV back in 1982 and seeing the Gurkhas in action, it made me proud to be British, even though these highly trained fighting men were from Nepal.
Quite why anyone, Gurkhas included would want to live in the UK as an expat I am not sure, but given that Commonwealth ex-soldiers who have served the British Army can come and live in the UK after four years service, surely the same terms should be offered to the Gurkhas.
It might be a good time to show your support for the Gurkhas by writing to your MP.
