UK Expat Pension Equality Battle Resumes

On September 2, the case relating to the freezing of state pensions for around 525,000 expats is going back to the European Court of Human Rights, as the ruling in favour of the Government’s policy is being appealed once again by the group Pension Parity.

British expats in areas such as South Africa, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Zimbabwe will not have their UK state pension uprated in line with inflation, unlike their counterparts in the UK and other countries in the European Economic Area.

The British Government is adamant that it cannot afford to uprate these pensions for all, as it would be an ongoing cost of around £400 million a year. The International Consortium of British Pensioners (ICPB) begs to differ. The Telegraph……..read more.
