There are many different motivations for becoming a British expat, one of which is working abroad. Well according to today’s Telegraph there are some rich rewards waiting for those that take the plunge.
Personally I do not work but instead have a reasonable standard of living making do with my private pensions as my only income source. I certainly agree with the latest NatWest survey that states that 90% of British expats say they are better off abroad than in the UK.
I live in Asia and it is here and particularly in Hong Kong that the most satisfied expats seem to live. Given the lower cost of living in the region I guess this is not surprising. However I also think lifestyle quality when compared to the UK is also a big factor along with the climate in attracting British expats in the first place.
One thing I did find interesting in the article is the fact that most British expats leave home with less than £5000 in the bank!
