The passport service has just issued a timely reminder to holidaymakers who hold a British Passport to check the expiry date of the document. While this information was primarily aimed at the annual holiday exodus from the UK it is equally important for British expatriates living abroad.
Most countries require at least 6 months validity on a passport for travellers entering through immigration and of course residents in foreign countries may well find that annual renewal of visa/extension of stay conditions also require this too, in fact in many cases this might well be up to a year.
Currently renewals for British passports are subject to the following charges:
To renew an adult ten-year 32-page passport costs £77.50 for standard service, £112.50 for the one-week Fast Track Service and £129.50 for the one-day Premium service.
If you were born on or before 2 September 1929 your passport is free of charge.
Details on renewing a British Passport abroad can be found here, be sure to check out the updates at the bottom of the page too as it includes the latest information.
